Quality-of-Life Initiatives

Enhancing Healthcare Services

These initiatives are designed to enhance healthcare services by addressing the holistic needs of patients beyond medical treatment. By enriching the patient experience, these efforts elevate the level of care provided, improving both health outcomes and quality of life for those served at UPMC Northwest.

Recent projects include:

  • Presents for Patients provides small gifts to each inpatient on the holidays to help them feel less alone.
  • Comfort Carts with amenities such as blankets, snacks, and flowers enhance comfort care for patients who are receiving end-of-life care while in the hospital and provide emotional support for their families.
  • Outdoor Fitness Station with 10 units of state-of-the-art exercise equipment, fosters a healthy community by encouraging physical activity.
  • Renovated Courtyard offers relaxation and peace for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Stuffies for Surgery provides a cuddly companion to help children feel less alone and distracts them from their anxiety about surgery.
  • Walking Trail Improvements such as paving and ADA curb cuts make the walking trail more accessible and safer for patients, employees, and the community.
