Partners in Purpose: Mike and Linda Morrison

Mike and Linda Morrison know a thing or two about Venango County. They’ve lived here their whole lives, ran a business, and raised their family here. Mike, a funeral director, purchased Morrison Funeral Home from his father in 1987. After 30 years of management, Mike and Linda sold the business in 2017.

Though they are mostly retired now, the Morrisons are busier than ever giving back to the community. Mike is involved with the Lyric Theater project in downtown Oil City and serves on the Planning Commission for the City. Linda teaches fitness classes at the Oil City YWCA and YMCA and is a member of the Oil City Garden Club. When not volunteering, they enjoy spending time together biking the local trails, traveling to visit their grandkids, and vacationing on sandy beaches.

Mike and Linda are unique in their longtime dedication to the Northwest Hospital Foundation. They both served on the Foundation Board of Directors: Linda from 1995 to 2002 and Mike from 2016 to 2024. They continue to serve on the Corporation Board and show their support by donating and spreading the word about the important services UPMC Northwest offers thanks in part to the Foundation.

“The Foundation gives us access to advanced services and technology we might not otherwise have here in Venango County,” Linda said. “We are so blessed to have a hospital with both high-tech resources and a personal, small-town touch where everyone still knows you by name.”

The Morrisons feel especially passionate about the Foundation’s Uncompensated Care Fund which provides assistance to patients in need with their medical debt. “When patients can’t afford their care, they suffer, the hospital suffers, and the community suffers,” Mike said. “The Foundation is truly making a difference for those who may face the choice between paying their medical bills and keeping their families fed and housed.”

There are no signs of Mike and Linda slowing down their support anytime soon. “Being involved with the Foundation as past Board members and donors, we’ve seen how our donations directly help patients,” they said. “Families become family here. We know when we give that we are ensuring better care for generations to come.”
